Sandrock Ski Trail

 

 

The 2.5 mile loop trail goes to the Sandrock Cliff area and returns.  Though originally designed for hiking, the trail is also for skiers who don't mind a narrow trail corridor.  The trail is not tracked, making it ideal for a short bushwack ski.  Because of the two moderate hills, we recommend you begin on the west side of the loop.  The trail gets its name from and is built on a knob of cambrian sandstone.  This 600 million year old rock was at one time an island in a much larger St Croix river.  The St Croix, perhaps 3 miles wide during post-glacial times, carried melted water from retreating glaciers in the north.
